Past Works: Story Book Illustration Inks

Earlier this year I illustrated a story book of traditional tales for Durano Publishing. I enjoyed the assignment because I had not done simple pen and ink illustrations for a while. Unfortunately, I can not recall the title of the book.

Recent Work: 'Royal Miscarriage' Cover Painting

I received a commission for the cover of a Lantern story book: Royal Miscarriage. I used predominantly earth colours to give the painting an 'African' or cultural feel.

Past Works: Macmillan Children’s Illustrator Award for Africa 2008

I had the privilege of partaking in the recent Macmillan Children’s Illustrator Award for Africa. I submitted two versions of the the selected briefs I chose to work on. I was interested in seeing how I could use vector software CorelDRAW 12 to achieve the same level of illustration I could achieve by either painting in Photoshop or using watercolours.

Which version do you prefer?

The first illustration brief is about a girl named Wandi. Below is the watercolour illustration.

Here is the vector illustration version.

The second brief is about a newspaper boy called Ben.
Here is the Photoshop illustration, which was also selected as the winning entry.

And here is the vector version.
Which illustration do you like more?

Past Works: Oluronbi and the Iroko Tree

I will be pasting updates to my website (presently under construction), my past works and some tutorials on this blog. Please feel free to post your comments.

These images were made for the cover of a comic book adaptation of the popular Yoruba folklore: Oluronbi and the Iroko Tree. The pencil drawings were scanned into a PC and painted on Adobe Photoshop. The cover was created last year.
This 3 page comic adaptation was featured in the 2007 eMeditterano publication- African comics.
